Recommended Vivarium Size: At least 10 gallons per frog, recommended 24x18x18 for 1-3 frogs.

Temperature: Range of 65 F to 80 F, but prefer temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Temperatures over 80 F are dangerous.  Phyllobates are more sensitive to warmer temperatures and standing water.

Humidity: Range of 70 – 100%, but can tolerate humidity down to 50% for short periods of time if the frogs have access to water. Low humidity levels, especially without access to water, can quickly be fatal.

Size: Adult female terribilis are larger, measuring approximately 2 inches. Male terribilis are a bit smaller, averaging about 1.75 inches at maturity.

Life-Span: Orange Black Foot Terribilis are capable of living well over 20 years in captivity under ideal conditions, although a lifespan of 10 years is more common.

Feeding: Black Foot eat Drosphilia Hydei or Drosphilia Melanogaster fruit flies.  Orange Blackfood will also eat pinhead crickets, springtails and isopods.  All feeder insects should be dusted with supplements.

Sexing: Phyllobates Terrbilis 'Orange Black Foot' can be more difficult to determine sex. Male 'Orange Black Foot' are easier to identify due to a loud call that can start between 8 and 10 months of age.  Male 'Orange Black Foot' vocal sacks will also be more predominant due to the calling and stretching of the skin.  Females will tend to be larger than males.  Finn's Frog Farms sells unsexed juvenile frogs, least three months out of the water.

Color/Pattern: Orange Black Foot Terribilis are almost identical to other Black Foots.  When young, terribilis some out of the water mostly black.  As the frogs mature the black coloring will disappear and the frog will be a beautiful orange color with black feet.  The nostrils, mouth, and toes will stay black.

Social Behavior: These frogs do well housed in groups up to sexual maturity, as long as enough space is provided. As they reach sexual maturity at 18-24 months of age, the social dynamic in a group of Phyllobates Terribilis 'Orange Black Foot' may change.  Female 'Orange Black Foot' may wrestle and eat each other's eggs.  It may be best to separate frogs into male/female pairs.  Finn's Frog Farm strongly recommends against housing different species/morphs of dart frogs.

Breeding: Phyllobates terribilis Orange Black Foot are very simple and easy to breed once they start. Sometimes it can take 2-3 years to begin. Generally, eggs are deposited on a smooth broad leaf, or on a petri dish under a cocohut. The eggs hatch into tadpoles, which then take 60-90 days to complete metamorphosis into miniature versions of the adults.
